Backfill type mechanics allow for the efficient treatment of large volumes of water. Consequently, it is frequently used in industry as well.
Backfill filters are large tanks with loose filter media. The composition of such a tank is determined depending on the purpose of such a filter installation, i.e. determined by water analysis.
The principle of backfill filters
The principle of operation is quite simple - water passes through the thickness of the filtering load at a desired speed. At the same time suspended particles change direction and speed and are detained between granules of material. however, mechanical impurities can be of different sizes and nature. Thus, the most effective filters are multilayer loading, the so-called multimedia filters.
The idea is that the upper layers of the filter have less dense filler and the lower layers have more dense filler. With the downstream water flow, coarse impurities will be retained in the upper layer, and the finer ones in the lower layer. In this way, all layers of filter media will always be in operation.

The filler is a multilayer loading of gravel (fraction 3.0 - 8.0 mm), treated sand (fraction 0.8 - 1.25 mm) and anthracite filter media. Suspended substances in water of different fractions are deposited in the thickness of the filter, and then by backwashing are drained into the drain.
